Introduction to the club

Gloucester Camera Club (GCC) promotes and encourages many aspects of photography. The programme of meetings is designed both to help beginners and to suit experienced photographers.Like many other camera clubs, Gloucester Camera Club includes experienced photographers who work at very high levels of skill, gaining acceptances, awards and distinctions, both nationally and internationally. These members are always willing to help those who are working their way towards greater mastery.

It’s about people, too

But a club isn’t only about technique – it’s for people to enjoy, irrespective of attainment. We like to think that Gloucester Camera Club is a friendly group, where people can feel that they belong.  Although one of the larger camera clubs in the region, and in fact still growing, GCC retains the intimate atmosphere of a smaller club. Some members live up to about twenty miles from the club, so they must be finding something they like. Why not come along and see for yourself? The club’s fees are as follows.Annual subscription – £25.00 – which is reduced if you join during the seasonAnnual subscription – £19.00 – if under 17 or over 60 on date of first meeting of the :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::season (6th Sept 2011)Fee for one meeting – £1.50 for a memberFee for one meeting – £2.00 for a visitor (which may be refundable, see below)Visitors to Gloucester Camera Club will be very welcome, at a cost of only £2 per visit.  Anyone who subsequently joins the club can have up to three such fees subtracted from the annual subscription.

The annual exhibition

An Annual Exhibition of club members’ work is held in the centre of Gloucester. For the past few years the exhibition has been staged in St. John’s Church in Northgate Street. The club members greatly appreciate this dispensation. Click here to see a map showing the location of St John’s Church. The next annual exhibition will be staged in September 2012.In this exhibition you will be able to view photographs in many styles, showing many different subjects. If you want to discuss your photographic interests and experiences, the stewards will be glad to hear about them. You might even consider joining a camera club . . . . .

Club history

A camera club has existed in Gloucester since 1907, with a hiatus during the second world war, the current club being about 66 years old.  For many years it has been linked with the name of Jack Farley FRPS EFIAP APAGB, whose life has been commemorated by the club’s Jack Farley Memorial Lectures, and by the Jack Farley photography awards to local students. Jack Farley’s contribution to Gloucester Camera Club and to photography in general was immense. His name appears in the MCPF Roll of Honour, along with those of Ray Guest APAGB and Ron Poppleton APAGB DPAGB, and in the APAGB Roll of Honour. From 1986 to 1988, the president of MCPF was a member of GCC – Ray Guest APAGB, now an honorary life member.
